A DOUBLE STANDARD AGAINST BOYS

Karen A. Duncan, an Indiana-based therapist specializing in sexual abuse prevention and treatment, said men can crack jokes when they hear about women who have sex with boys. She said a double standard exists where boys are not treated as victims when they are sexually abused by women. When the woman is considered attractive, people can even give "distorted permission" to that instance, she said. "If she is attractive, we give her permission to sexually abuse the boy," said Duncan. If the woman isn't attractive, people hold that against the boys, she said. "Then the boys become the victim of not making a good choice because the woman isn't attractive," she said. People get stuck in "gender stereotypes" that boys can't be victimized by having sex with women, Duncan said.
